Groceries
 | Jim Burrs - one of a number of real live groceries - not exactly a Super-Safeway, mind you, but stocked
pretty well. They usually have very fresh tortillas - or
you can go to one of the
tortillarias! |
Restaurants
 | Gama's - A local family owns their own fishing boats. Some of
the freshest seafood in town. Try their manta tacos or their
fried fish. Awesome! Located next to Plaza las Glorias in
town. |
 | La Curva - off the main drag, good food |
 | El Dolfin (Delfin Amigable) - Great atmosphere - usually have
Rosachiis, etc. |
 | Lily's - great food - sit outside and enjoy the water view and the fish market activity |
 | Costa Brava - also excellent food. |
Playa La Jolla
 | Spend a day on the quiet beaches of Playa La Jolla. Bring a book, some cold beverages,
maybe a football or frisbee to toss. It doesn't get any better than this
! |
 | Snorkel out to some of the reefs - lots of fish to see! |
 | Good fishing on the point when the tide is moving in or out of the
estuary. |
Docks
 | Buy fresh shrimp and fish here. You can get large shrimp for about $6-9/pound, depending
on the season. They will negotiate with you some, depending on how much you buy. They will
also clean the shrimp for you if you ask. Bring a cooler and they'll even fill it with
ice! |

 |
 | This is also a great place to get out and do some shopping. Have a
snack at one of the seaside restaurants
. |
 | A great place to park and explore the next couple of streets, which
constitues "old town". |
Other Points/Activities of Interest
 | CETMAR Aquarium - at the entrance to Las Conchas -
humble, but a nice place for kids to see some of the sealife from the area. |
 | CEDO - in Las Conchas - studies environmental
issues, has classes to learn about the ocean, etc. Staffed with english-speaking
volunteers - a real treat! |
 | Bird Island - swim with the sea lions, look
for whales and dolphins. Snorkel or scuba dive. About a 1 1/2 boat ride each way.
Sign up in town. Highly recommended! |

 | Pinacate National Park and Wildlife Refuge. (A
little past half way to Puerto Penasco, a small, unpaved road leads off to the right to
the Pinacate National Park and Wildlife Refuge. This is where the U.S. astronauts trained
for moon landings.) |
 | Deep sea fishing - get on a charter from town. Great
opportunities to get out and enjoy the water! |
 | Parasailing - also available in town |
 | Barter with the beach vendors |
