What Changed?

Air-conditioning service if you need it!

Background

Rocky Point's summers are typically 10-15 degrees cooler than Phoenix or Tucson.  The ocean breezes and ceiling fans make for an enjoyable respite from the heat.  The need for air conditioning is unpredictable - historically, there have been many weeks in the middle of the summer when no A/C is required.  At other times, it can obviously be hot enough to be uncomfortable.

As you may know, the beach in front of Casa de Olé is one of the nicest in Rocky Point.  However, summer rentals on this beach (throughout Playa Encanto and Playa La Jolla) have been limited due to the very high cost and maintenance issues associated with air-conditioning.  Without access to city power, the challenges of doing so, cost-effectively and trouble-free, is a considerable challenge.

Air Conditioning on "demand"

Since the 2003 summer season, Olé guests have enjoyed trouble-free, cost-effective air conditioning.  This was made possible by the installation of a new generator and new air conditioning equipment that ran much more affordably (please read the "What changed?" page if you're interested in more specifics).

During the summer months of May - Oct, in addition to the rent, you will need to pay the costs of all propane use, which runs the A/C systemThe A/C system has been made as efficient as possible - now it will be up to you to determine how much propane is used.  Here's how that will work:

When you check in, there is a digital gas meter display mounted inside the house.  You will be shown where it is, and what the initial reading is on your arrival.  When you leave, another reading will be taken, and you will be charged for the amount of propane used during your stay - it will be subtracted from your deposit.  Please understand that If it is hot during your stay and the system runs a considerable length of time, your costs may run up to $60/day.  Your actual usage will determine whether your costs are higher or lower than this estimate.

Due to the high costs of the propane, there is a $30/night deposit in addition to the normal one-night's rent if your summer stay is 4 nights or longerThe cost of the propane you use as well as any damages will be subtracted from your deposit and the remainder will be returned to you.

After much research, we feel this system is the fairest way to accommodate your usage and be fair to both parties.  Other homes have resorted to "lock out" the thermostats, or only run the system a fixed number of hours/day.  With our system, YOU are in control of YOUR comfort.  Isn't that what vacation should be?
