Meet Rosa!

Rosa is the full-time housekeeper.  She is a treasure who takes care of the house - and you!  She works 6 days a week and makes sure everything is working and clean.  The cost of her cleaning services is included in the nightly rental price.

In addition, you can also enjoy Rosa's cooking services; her entries are fabulous!  If you'd like to do so, please understand that this often requires her to work extra hours (or at a more frantic pace) for shopping and/or cooking in addition to her regular duties.  For this extra service, we expect you will compensate her for this workload with an appropriate gratuity.

Common Questions:

Q:  What are Rosa’s hours?
A:
She typically works 9am – 5pm on Mon, Wed, Thur, Fri and Sat and 9am – 12pm on Sunday. (If she has to shop for groceries for your meals, she arrive after late.  She takes a 1 hour-lunch at around 12:30, when the lunch truck drives through Playa La Jolla.

Q:  Is it appropriate to ask Rosa to run errands for us?
A:
While Rosa is usually quite willing to shop for groceries or other items in the morning, this will usually delay her arrival at Casa de Olé past 9am.  After she arrives, please be aware that going BACK into town is a burden on Rosa’s time and her personal vehicle.  We would expect a MINIMUM of a $10 fee be paid directly to Rosa if you find this is necessary.

Q:  How do we pay for the food she buys?
A:
Please plan on reimbursing Rosa directly for the food she buys on your behalf before you leave.  She will provide receipts if you desire to look at them.

Q:  Is it appropriate to ask Rosa to cook for people not staying at Casa de Olé?
A:
Unfortunately, no.  While we realize that it is always nice to invite friends over to share a meal, it is inappropriate to ask Rosa to cook for more than the 14 guests (maximum) staying at Casa de Olé.

We hope your stay is a memorable one!

Cooking

Rosa is a wonderful cook, so you are in for a real treat!  Attached you will find a selection of meals that she is good at cooking for groups.  You are in no way limited to this list.  You’re just on your own in planning it with her!  Be brave and pull out the dictionary!  Enjoy!   Note that cooking services are not available to those who rent the guest house separately.

The best way this works is for you to choose your menu at least one day before you would like it prepared.  Rosa will estimate how much money she will need for groceries, and will shop for them and bring them the next morning along with receipts and change.  If you bring down any of your own food and would like her to use it, please let her know so that she can plan her grocery shopping accordingly.  (It is often a good idea to request that she cook extra quantities so that you can enjoy leftovers the next day for lunch.)

We recommend you keep her hours in mind.  That way, if you're planning on going out to a restaurant or doing your own cooking, you can utilize her services the way that works best for you.   If you would like her to work extra hours on Saturday, Sunday or evenings, she is usually able to be flexible with advance warning.  Please work out the details (i.e. hours and extra compensation) directly with Rosa.

Rosa takes great pride in the services she provides. Although she earns a weekly salary, she is very grateful for your monetary forms of appreciation!

In the house, there is a “Spanish Translation Cheat Sheet” to help in communicating with Rosa.  It’s located in the “Casa de Ole” binder in the living room.  Hope it helps!  Have a wonderful stay, and delicious dining!
