For a small additional fee, guests of Olé can enjoy the benefits of wireless high speed internet anywhere on the property (or by the pool, or on the beach, if you are so brave). In November, 2005, this popular system was upgraded to provide even faster service.  Here's what you need to know:

Service Technical Details

The service is provided via a satellite system, with speeds up to 1Mb+ download speed and up to 256K upload speed.

Service works well for: Service is not designed for:
bulletWeb surfing, e-mail, instant messaging
 
bulletFast file downloads and streaming audio/video
 
bulletCommercial/Small Office use
 
bulletVPN at dial-up speed (using Cisco, Microsoft PPTP, or Nortel VPN)
 
bulletHeavy upload traffic, such as Web and FTP server hosting
 
bulletRemote control software
 
bulletTransmitting video & voice over IP
 
bulletInternet gaming (due to latency)

Any operating system that supports TCP/IP and the wireless access described below are supported, including:  Windows®, Macintosh®, Unix® and Linux®
 

Wireless Technical Details

This is a 802.11b WiFi system, which is the most common technology used today.  Most laptops purchased in the past 2 years will have this wireless capability built in.  You may also bring down a separate PCMCIA card that has this capability.
